Exosomes play a critical role in cell-to-cell communication. These small, secreted vesicles contain proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, often enriched with microRNAs (miRNA). The functional significance of exosomes is broad and continues to be discovered. Exosomes have been implicated in synaptic plasticity, neuronal stress responses, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. Because of exosome’s wide impact, they have garnered interest in areas of therapeutics, diagnostics, drug delivery, and basic research.
BrainXell’s human iPSC-derived neuronal cells offer a relevant cell system for the production, isolation, and purification of exosomes. In collaboration with NeuroDex, a company that has developed a proprietary neuron-derived exosome isolation technology, BrainXell has confirmed exosomes are secreted from iPSC-derived cortical neurons.

The typical concentration and size of isolated exosomes from different aged cultures was demonstrated by nano particle tracing analysis using a Nanosight500.
A variety of proteins from intact exosomes and lysed exosomes were detected by ELISA.
